Annual Reports: HMP Hollesley Bay - 2003
In this reporting year, 1 January � 31 December 2003,HMP/YOI Hollesley Bay has experienced something of arenaissance. The prison and the 1500 acre estate have along and varied history, from an agricultural college in 1887through Borstal, then Detention Centre and in 1982, withWarren Hill, the two prisons became one Young OffenderInstitution. In the spring of 2002 Hollesley Bay once againofficially became a separate prison, for Category D males.The operational capacity is 329 prisoners, of whom 40 canbe Young Offenders who are accommodated in speciallyallocated rooms in the adult units. Lifers are a significantpart of the roll, 40 being the maximum number allowed atany one time.
