Annual Report: HMP Pentonville - 2001/02
Pentonville is a very busy local prison for males with some 1,200 inmates and normally upwards of 600 staff in post. On average 70% of population are convicted prisoners and 30% are unconvicted. A little more than half the population comes from minority ethnic groups There is a significant number of foreign nationals.The catchment areas for Pentonville are the Magistrates� Courts and Crown Courts in the North and Northeast London, Essex and Hertfordshire. Throughput remains very high.
