Annual Report: HMP Kirklevington Grange - 2001/02

Located near Yarm, Cleveland in the north East, Kirklevington is the only male Resettlement Prisonin the North and one of only three in the country. It takes mostly Category �C� prisoners fromSecure Prisons and someCategory �D� prisoners from Open Prisons. In addition the prison iscurrently certified to take up to 12 Life Prisoners.In most cases the prisoners will have been sentenced to more than 4 years and be within 36 monthsof their release date and normally within 18 months of release or parole.The prison�s function is to assist prisoners in not re-offending after release, by helping them toprepare for resettlement into the community rather than being suddenly released back into society.The prison provides a disciplined regime seeking to develop in prisoners, responsibility for self and toothers.
