4 January - UK nuclear power station 'stress test' report published

Safety reassessments undertaken at UK nuclear power stations in the light of events at Fukushima Dai-ichi have revealed no fundamental weaknesses, but lessons have been learnt and safety enhancements made.

30 December - New ONR Incident Reporting arrangements go live

From 1 January 2012, new incident reporting arrangements will be in place for licensees and other dutyholders reporting incidents to ONR.

22 December - Regulatory review of generic disposal system safety case

ONR and Environment Agency have undertaken a regulatory review of the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency's (NDA) Radioactive Waste Management Directorate (RWMD) generic Disposal System Safety Case (gDSSC). The NDA's RMWD published the gDSSC in February as part of its responsibilities to implement geological disposal of higher activity radioactive wastes.
