What Government is doing

Departments & Agencies

Who does what within Government to combat terrorism; who prepares for and responds to a possible attack; and how the various groups work together.

Legislation

There are two main pieces of legislation that we use to fight terrorism: the Terrorism Act 2000 and the Anti-Terrorism, Crime & Security Act 2001.

Border Control

The policing of our ports and airports by Police, Immigration and Customs is one of the first lines of defence against terrorism and international organised crime in the UK.

Targeting Terrorist Funds

Finding and freezing the money terrorists use is an effective tool in stopping them before they start.

Infrastructure Protection

We work hard to secure and protect our most vital systems and services, such as communications and utilities.

Resilience & Contingency Planning

We have well-laid plans in place to prevent and respond to a terrorist attack, just as we have for any major disruption or emergency.
