Race Equality Advisory Panel

Role of the panel

The Race Equality Advisory Panel (REAP) has been established to replace the Race Relations Forum which was dissolved in 2001. The panel consists of 25 people from outside the Home Office who represent minority communities within Britain. In creating the panel, we have attempted to ensure a good mix of members who will reflect the dimensions of ethnicity, faith, gender, age and geographical location within Britain.

The Race Equality Advisory Panel will be a source of advice on matters related to race equality. It will:

  • Help develop our strategy on race equality
  • Advise on implementing and delivering existing policies/programmes
  • Provide ad hoc advice on specific topics
  • Provide a link to communities

The panel gives staff across the Home Office, including Ministers, the opportunity to discuss particular bits of work, policies and strategies with people who know and understand the views of minority communities through their role as a representative of a particular community or through their sphere of work. It is a chance to get helpful and impartial advice at an early stage so that we can 'get it right' for everyone first time.
