Sentencing & Offenders Unit

The Unit has responsibility for specified aspects of the criminal law, including policy on sex offences and sex offenders, theft and other dishonesty offences, extra-territorial jurisdiction, and offences against the person. The Unit also has responsibility for current sentencing policy. This includes ensuring the courts have the powers they need to deal with the offenders who come before them. It is also responsible for ensuring the criminal law is only invoked in areas where it is absolutely necessary.
