Sentencing Framework Implementation Team

SFIT exists to carry forward the review of the sentencing framework (Halliday report) to full implementation by establishing a new sentencing framework which improves outcomes, especially in reducing crime, at justifiable expense.

The Report of the Review of the Sentencing Framework for England and Wales was published on 5 July and can be downloaded from SFIT's documents page (please see link below). The public consultation exercise concluded on 31 October 2001 and a formal summary of the responses has been published.

Responsible for leading the team and managing the project so as to deliver a new sentencing framework by identifying requirements for sentencing reform; identifying legislative requirements; discussing proposals with criminal Justice agencies; and coordinating overall implementation.

Responsible for taking forward all the policy proposals in the Sentencing Framework Review Report for which the team has direct responsibility, working closely with colleagues elsewhere to ensure that policy responsibility is properly coordinated. To provide advice and briefing as required on relevant issues.

Responsible for assisting in taking forward all the policy proposals in the Sentencing Framework Review Report for which the team has direct responsibility, and working closely with colleagues elsewhere to ensure that policy responsibility is properly coordinated. Responsible for liaison with the wider Criminal Justice system; to discuss specific recommendations of the report and the reactions of the individual agencies to them; and to identify key areas of dispute and recommend proposals for resolution.
