The Press Office handles calls from the media only. Members of the public requiring information should contact the Home Office Public Contact Section.

Operating weekdays from 7am through to 10pm, the Press Office is comprised of a News Desk -- which acts as the first port of call for the media, handling all breaking news -- and six teams of specialist 'desks', which cover specific areas of policy:

Press Office Structure

News Desk - Initial point of contact for all breaking news and major developments, including interview requests; central co-ordination of Departmental enquiries; facts, figures, statements, statistics and diary information.

Police and Organised Crime Desk - Specialist media planning, facilities, briefings and interviews on: police, including HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Police Reform; organised crime; judicial co-operation and extradition; proceeds of crime; firearms; terrorism; public order (including football hooliganism); and the Security Service.

Drugs and Crime Reduction - Specialist media planning, facilities, briefings and interviews on: crime reduction, including vehicle and burglary crime; crime reduction partnerships, CCTV, domestic violence, antisocial behaviour and Neighbourhood Wardens; the drug strategy, including communities, young people, treatment and availability; and street crime.

Prison and Probation Team - The News Desk will handle all media enquiries about Prisons. The specialist team handles advice on longer-term media approaches -- such as documentaries and dramas, media attendance on Ministerial visits and other matters.
