Direct Communication Unit

The Direct Communications Unit (DCU) was formed in September 2001 to deal with all public and ministerial correspondence.

It consists of three teams:

DCU Structure:

The Customer Communications Service (CCS)

CCS works with Ministers and policy units to improve Home Office performance in responding to public correspondence, telephone enquiries and all aspects of customer communication. It also provides professional advice, support and encouragement to staff.

It includes the Public Contact Section, a Business Co-ordination Section, the Initial Consideration Section, and seven Response Teams that make up the Correspondence Sections, as well as the Directory Team, which manages the Directory of Business and Staff Location Directory.

The Resource & Planning Section (RPS)

RPS handles the administrative support and resource management/planning activities for the Communication Directorate (i.e. financial, personnel, procurement, accommodation, IS/IT, office equipment, etc.). It consists of the CD Business Support Team and the Procurement Team.

The Projects Team

The Projects Team manages the delivery of the Correspondence Tracking Project (CTS) -- an internal system for tracking all public correspondence.
