Active Communities Directorate

Aims & Objectives

The Active Communities Directorate contributes to the delivery of Objective Five of the Home Office’s Strategic Plan 2004-2008: Citizens, communities and the voluntary sector are more fully engaged in tackling social problems and there is more equality of opportunity and respect for
people of all races and religions.

The ACD is responsible for the achievement of the Government’s target of increasing voluntary & community sector activity, including increasing community participation, by 5 per cent by 2006.
