Youth Justice: the statutory principal aim of preventing offending by children and young people

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 places all those working in the youth justice system under a statutory duty to have regard to a principal aim of preventing offending by children and young people.

This framework document sets out what this new aim, shared across the youth justice system, means for the operation of that system and the work of those individuals and agencies that work within it.
