The Victims' Charter - Standards of Service for Victims of Crime

First published in 1990, the Victims' Charter sets out the standards of service victims can expect from criminal justice agencies such as the police and the courts, and what they can do in cases where they do not feel they have received the treatment they're entitled to.

We recently reviewed the Victims' Charter as part of our move to put victims at the heart of the criminal justice system. As a result, we are replacing the Victims' Charter with the Victims' Code of Practice - a document that will give victims of crime statutory rights for the first time.  The Code of Practice for Victims of Crime was published on 18 October 2005, and will become law in April 2006.
