Review of Charges for Immigration Applications

Introduction

In April 2004 the Government announced a top to bottom review of the Immigration system to identify and tackle areas of abuse and maximise the benefits which controlled migration brings to the UK.

At the same time, the Home Office has been reviewing the charges for applications for the following immigration services:

  • Leave to Remain (LTR)
  • Leave to Remain associated with an Immigration Employment Document (IED LTR)
  • Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP)
  • Sectors Based Scheme (SBS)

Travel Documents

The current fees are charged at a level which covers the full administrative costs of providing the service up to the point of conveying a decision.

This consultation aims to:

  • Draw customers’ attention to increases in the basic administrative fee for the services listed above (effective from 1 April 2005)
  • Seek the views of our customers and stakeholders regarding:
  • New proposals to recover appeals and enforcement costs as part of the application fee

The impact the resulting fees would have on individuals, international students, higher education establishments and the private sector.
