X-ray Scanner Success

PSDB has recently been deploying a novel and innovative scanner that reveals items hidden below clothing without the need for a hands-on intrusive body search. The Rapiscan Secure 1000 uses low power x-rays to build up an image of the surface of the body through clothing. The resultant black and white image can be used to identify the location of weapons, drugs and explosives located upon the person.

This system has recently been successfully deployed with the Metropolitan Police, targeting gun and drug crime in particular boroughs in London. The use of the scanner significantly increases the throughput of subjects and allows operations to be conducted in a more efficient manner. Other Forces and Constabularies have expressed interest in the scanner and are incorporating the system into their planning for major events.

The National Technical Support Unit at PSDB holds a central stock of the latest search and surveillance equipment that is provided to police forces on request. This avoids all forces having to keep complex and expensive equipment.

For more information about search and screening technologies, contact the PSDB Information Service on 01727 816400 or email us.
