Some of the documents below are in PDF PDF Icon format. To view them, you may first need to download a free copy of the Adobe Acrobat reader.

The Home Secretary announced the setting up of the Internet Taskforce on Child Protection on 28 March 2001 in response to a report by the Internet Crime Forum which made a number of recommendations that included the display of safety messages and the improved supervision of Chat Rooms.

The Taskforce is chaired by Home Office Minister Paul Goggins, who recently took over this responsibility from Hilary Benn MP. It is a partnership between representatives of the Internet Industry, child welfare organisations, the Police and the Government (click here to see current membership).

The Task Force has 2 main aims:

  • To make the UK the best and safest place in the world for children to use the Internet;
  • To help protect children the world over from abuse fuelled by criminal misuse of new technologies
