Identity Cards Bill

This section tells you about the progress of the Bill through Parliament.

The draft legislation was the subject of a consultation exercise and a summary of findings was published on 27 October 2004, alongside the Home Affairs Select Committee report.

The Identity Cards Bill was introduced to Parliament in the House of Commons on 29 November 2004, following the Queen’s Speech on 23 November 2004.

The Identity Cards Bill formed part of the debate on the Queen’s Speech in both the House of Commons and House of Lords on 29 November 2004. The Bill’s passage through the House of Commons can be followed here:
