The Active Citizenship Centre has been created to promote
research that demonstrates the value of civil renewal
and inform policymaking in this area.
The Centre will showcase best practice examples of
civil renewal in different fields and in different areas
of the country. We will be seeking to encourage better
evaluation of practice and examine ‘what works’
in what context.
The Centre is a partnership between policy makers,
academics, practitioners and citizens. It has a multi-disciplinary
steering group to advise on research and best practice
in civil renewal
It is currently a virtual centre and functions via
a network of researchers and practitioners. We are working
with academic institutions, local authorities and practitioners)
to set up regional ‘hubs’ that will give
the Active Citizenship Centre a physical presence and
help to champion civil renewal.
A fully searchable standalone Active Citizenship Centre
website will go live early in the new year with regularly
updated content featuring a wide range of case studies,
the latest research evidence, downloadable reports and
articles – watch this space!
The Centre has been initially funded by the Civil Renewal
Unit (CRU) of the Home Office.
