The Unit is responsible for developing and delivering policy on police use of science and technology.

Our work is focused in particular on the top four Home Office Public Service Agreements and covers the following main areas:

  • Forensic Integration Strategy including the use of DNA and other types of forensic evidence
  • Forensic Policy Legislation
  • Forensic Quality and Accreditation including setting and regulating forensic standards 
  • Operation of the national DNA database
