Policy on the cancellation of refugee status
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we were asked the following questions on the department's policy on dealing with asylum seekers who have made false claims of their nationality when seeking asylum
1. How is the Home Office or the relevant department (for example the UK Borders Agency,) planning to deal with these people?
2. Will they be deported (i.e. deprived of British Citizenship) or taken to court for fraud under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 or will they be allowed to stay under human rights laws?
3. Please confirm that discussions are being held on such a policy based on a number of sample cases and that this policy will either advise that people can stay or they will be deprived of their citizenship / taken to court?
4. At what level will this be approved?
