Biography of David Walker
Sir David Walker is currently a senior adviser to US bank Morgan Stanley, having resigned his previous role in 2005 as Chairman of Morgan Stanley International with executive responsibility for the bank's activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Sir David graduated from Queens' College, Cambridge with a double first in Economics and his 48-year career has spanned both the public and private sectors in and around the City of London.
Sir David had previously held the position of Assistant Secretary at the Treasury (1974-77) and several key posts at the Bank of England where, in 1981, he became one of four executive directors of the bank. From 1988 to 1992, he was Chairman of the Securities and Investment board, a predecessor to the current financial regulator the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
Between 1992 and 1994, he took up the post of deputy chairman at Lloyds Bank. Sir David was Chairman of the London Investment Bankers' Association for three years until June 2004 and he has held a number of non-executive appointments.
In 2007, Sir David was appointed by the British Venture Capital Association to undertake an independent review of the private equity industry and produce a code of conduct for the industry.
