Treasury Compact Champion

The  Compact  is a document that sets a framework for partnership working between Government and the voluntary and community sector – designed to improve relationships for mutual advantage.

The 2002  cross cutting review of the role of the voluntary and community sector in service delivery  found remarkable consensus that the Compact was, on the whole, “a good thing”, but that awareness and implementation needed to be improved.  In particular, the review recommended that:

“All government departments should appoint a senior official to oversee implementation of the Compact and Codes.” (Recommendation 27)

“The “Champion” should establish a baseline on awareness and implementation in their department.” (Recommendation 29)

The  Active Community Unit in the Home Office are responsible for overall implementation of the cross cutting review, but senior officials have been appointed by all departments to champion the Compact.  Information about other departmental Champions can be found on the  Compact website .

The Treasury’s Compact Champion is Stephen Pickford, Director of International Finance.  A Compact strategy is currently underway. Awareness raising activities are taking place as part of "Compact Week", which runs 1–7 November 2004. For more information, or to contact Stephen Pickford, please email the Treasury Voluntary and Community Sector Team .
