Treasury Communications

Steve Field, currently a senior civil servant in HM Treasury's International Finance Directorate, has been appointed Head of Communications at HM Treasury.

He will take up post on 20 November 2007 assuming overall responsibility for the Treasury's media arrangements and becoming the Chancellor's principal spokesperson on all economic and policy issues.

Notes for editors

  1. Steve, age 35, is currently Head of the Treasury's European Economic Reform team and previously has held a range of other senior posts in HM Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs including the private office and the communications and strategy team.
  2. Steve replaces Chris Martin who has been head of the Treasury Communications team since May 2006. Chris is moving on promotion to become a Director of the Treasury's Public Spending and Growth directorate.
