This report presents an overview of the key socio-economic trends that will affect Britain’s society and economy over the coming decades, and how these might impact on the public finances. One of the most important trends is the ageing of the population. Based on a comprehensive assessment, the report finds that the UK’s long-term fiscal position remains sustainable despite a more rapidly ageing population. In addition, the report concludes that the UK is in a strong position relative to many other developed countries to deal with the fiscal challenges of the future.
