50 Qualifying MBA programmes

The Chancellor announced in Budget 2004 a new entitlement for graduates from 50 of the world’s top business schools to work in the UK for up to 12 months on completing MBAs. The document lists the 50 institutions, including 10 from the UK.

The MBA provision, introduced into the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) in 2005, has not been carried over into the new points-based system. MBA holders (irrespective of where they studied) can claim 35 points in an application for leave in Tier 1 (General) but will have to reach the 75 point threshold by, in addition, scoring sufficient points for previous earnings, age, and UK experience.
