IMF report on UK economic performance

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is today publishing its report on the UK economy, along with the UK’s statement to the IMF Executive Board, which sets out the Government’s response to the report.

Notes for editors

1. IMF surveillance of every major country is carried out through annual consultations between Fund staff and member Governments and central banks, called Article IV consultations.  The consultations for the UK’s 2004 Article IV report took place between 8 and 20 December 2004.  The IMF’s concluding statement was published immediately after the consultation on 21 December 2004.

2. To further enhance the transparency of the scrutiny process, at the request of the UK Government, the IMF report and all associated papers are published in full.  These documents are available on the  IMF website at www.imf.org.
