Vote on account 2005-6

A Vote on Account for £157,950 million resources and £149,429 million cash for central government was presented to the House of Commons today.

The purpose of the Vote on Account is to provide funds for spending on existing services during the period from the start of the new financial year on 1 April until Parliament has approved the 2005-06 Main Estimates, which will be given legislative force in the summer Appropriation Act (usually passed in mid July).

In addition, there are separate Votes on Account for the House of Commons (£86 million resources and £66 million cash) presented by the Speaker on behalf of the House of Commons Commission, for the National Audit Office (£27 million resources and
£27 million cash) presented by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Commission and the Electoral Commission (£17 million resources and £17 million cash) presented by the Speaker.

The amount sought in a Vote on Account is generally based on a standard proportion (45 per cent) of the amount voted so far for the corresponding services in the current financial year.
