NEW MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL OF ECONOMIC ADVISERS

The Treasury has announced today that Maeve Sherlock has been appointed as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers. She will work as a policy expert to Treasury Ministers on welfare to work, child poverty and other policy issues.

NOTE TO EDITORS

  1. The Council of Economic Advisers was created in August 1997 (PN 99/97). It is made up of individual policy experts who bring their specialist advice to work alongside individual Treasury teams focusing on the Government's key policy priorities.
  2. The Council's terms of reference are to advise the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the design and implementation of policies for the achievement of the Government's economic objectives.
  3. Maeve Sherlock is currently the Director of the National Council for One Parent Families, a long established charity which works with and for lone parents. She has worked in the voluntary sector for 15 years. She is also a Trustee and Hon Treasurer of the National Family and Parenting Institute.
