SPECIAL ADVISER

Ian Austin has been appointed a special adviser to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He will take up his post later this month.

Notes to Editors

1. Ian Austin, 34, was deputy director of communications for the Scottish Labour Party until the Scottish elections on May 6. He was previously the Labour Party's West Midlands regional press officer from 1995 until his secondment to Scotland last year.

2. Ian will work closely with existing special advisers and the Treasury press office. John Kingman, Head of Communications and Strategy, who has overall responsibility for the Treasury's media arrangements, is the Chancellor's principal spokesman on economic and policy issues. Fiona Hamilton is the Chancellor's press officer with day-to-day responsibility for the Chancellor's media arrangements.
