Euro

Security features

The notes incorporate a number of security features including: water marks on both sides of the note and a security thread; a composition of cotton fibre based paper printed in raised ink relief designed to give the notes a distinctive tactile feel; and holographic panels showing note denomination and the euro-symbol (€) for all notes plus an additional architectural holographic image for €50-500 notes. To capitalise on these security features, the European Central Bank have been using the catch phrase "look, feel, tilt" in the intensive information campaign, entitled "the EURO.OUR money", targeting citizens and cash handlers in the cash changeover period.

Further details, together with practical examples and illustrations (as seen on the right of this page) of the security features of the new notes are on available on the ECB website, click here. (external website, opens in new browser window.)
