Advancing Enterprise 2005

Enterprise in Global Markets

Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, 4 February 2005

As part of the Government's commitment to the promotion of enterprise as a driver of economic growth and prosperity, the Chancellor hosted a major international conference in London on 4 February 2005.

Advancing Enterprise 2005 brought together a group of leading international thinkers to discuss how we can create a climate for new and existing enterprises to flourish in the context of a fast-changing global economy, particularly the rising success of economies such as India and China. Session themes included the opportunities and challenges of China and India, the business response to the new global economy, the international economic system and how we can continue to make progress towards creating an enterprise society.

Eminent international speakers on the day included Mr P Chidambaram (Indian Finance Minister), Mr Zhou Xiaochuan (Governor, People's Bank of China), Dr Alan Greenspan (US Federal Reserve), Jeff Immelt (CEO, GE), Mervyn King (Governor, Bank of England), Sir Terry Leahy (CEO, Tesco), Sir Tom McKillop (Chief Executive, AstraZeneca) and Sir John Rose (Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce).
