Total Managed Expenditure: DEL and AME Index

Total Managed Expenditure (TME) is a definition of aggregate public spending derived from national accounts. It is the consolidated sum of current and capital expenditure of central and local government and public corporations.

TME can also be presented in terms of the way the Government sets budgets for spending by the public sector. TME is the sum of Departmental Expenditure Limits (DEL) and Annually Managed Expenditure (AME).

The outturn data presented in this section are national accounts' figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). DEL and AME figures are consistent with the Public Expenditure Outturns News Release. The ONS have recently made changes to the classification of NHS trusts and there are currently no forecasts on a consistent basis. Please refer to paragraph A.16 of Spending Review 2004 for further details.

Data on a RAB stage 1 basis (also consistent with Public Expenditure Outturns News Release) are available on the downloadable Excel and CSV files (see links below).
