Making a difference: Motivating people to improve performance

This information is being maintained for archive/historical purposes only. It will not be updated.

Remember the last time you felt really good at work? Do you remember the feeling and how long it lasted with you? Perhaps it was a time when a senior person in the organisation took the time to recognise your efforts - it probably took no longer than 5 minutes but left you feeling good for hours, days, perhaps weeks.

This project is looking at how we can enhance the motivation of public sector staff and create an environment in which people enjoy their work and put more of themselves into work. Motivation is related to effort, energy, excitement and commitment. Given the right direction these factors have been seen to increase productivity. The public sector has traditionally been well motivated but recently this appears to be in decline.
