Overview
By the adoption of Resolution 1448 (2002), the United Nations Security Council decided to lift the sanctions that had been imposed on the União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola (UNITA) since 1993.
Previous sanctions had included a freeze of UNITA funds and those of senior officials of UNITA or adult members of their immediate families (UNSCR 1173 [1998]) and a visa ban on senior officials of UNITA and adult members of their immediate families (UNSCR 1127 [1997]).
