FINANCIAL SERVICES AND MARKETS ACT 2000:  RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

Bulletin number 27 from HM Treasury

This is the twenty seventh bulletin covering developments on the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA).

Implementation of the E-Commerce Directive

The Treasury has twice consulted on its proposals for implementing the E-Commerce Directive in the area of financial services, in December 2001 and March 2002 respectively. Following these consultations, a statutory instrument - The Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Financial Promotion) (Amendment) (Electronic Commerce Directive) Order 2002 - was laid in draft before Parliament on 16 May 2002. This SI was accompanied by an Explanatory Memorandum, a Regulatory Impact Assessment and a Transposition Note.  Other implementing legislation will be made in due course.
