Financial stability and depositor protection

The Treasury, Bank of England and Financial Services Authority (together, the Authorities) published Financial stability and depositor protection: further consultation on 1 July 2008. This document builds on and responds to the Authorities' earlier consultation on these issues, launched in January this year. It sets out updated proposals for reforms to strengthen the framework for financial stability and depositor protection, outlines planned next steps, and seeks further views on key outstanding issues. The Government intends to bring forward legislation taking forward the proposed reforms, later in 2008.

Responses to this consultation are requested by 15 September 2008.

A further document will be published before summer Parliamentary recess, containing draft clauses for consultation and providing more detail on the proposed special resolution regime.

Further information, and responses to the consultation should be sent to: banking.reform@hm-treasury.gov.uk

The documents are available in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer you can download the software free of charge from the Adobe website.
