Property authorised investment funds

Following the introduction of UK-REITs on 1 January 2007, the Government has been continuing to consider the taxation of Authorised Investment Funds (AIF), which invest in property.

The Government published a framework for taking this issue forward at Budget 2007.

The Government is today publishing a discussion paper on Property AIFs. This aims firstly to provide partial draft Regulations which deliver certain parts of the framework as set out in the Budget document, and secondly to set out how the Government intends to take forward the remaining parts of the framework.

Subject to the successful resolution of the issues which remain, the Government remains committed to launching a new tax regime for Property AIFs by April 2008.

The discussion paper is available in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer you can download the software free of charge from the Adobe website.
