Implementation of the E-Commerce Directive in Financial Services

The purpose of this consultation is to set out how the Government is minded to implement the e-commerce directive in the area of financial services.  An annex details the main legislative changes to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, (and to the various statutory instruments made under that Act) that we presently envisage will be necessary to implement the directive.

As the Government intends to implement the directive as quickly as possible, it will not be possible to provide for a normal consultation period of 12 weeks. Instead, comments should be sent no later than 8 February 2002 to:
