CLAUSE 129: THE NORTHERN IRELAND ASSEMBLY COMMISSION

 

SUMMARY

This clause relieves from stamp duty all transfers of assets to the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission, with effect from 28 March 2000.

DETAILS OF THE CLAUSE

Subsection 1 provides for the amendment of Section 55 Finance Act 1987 (Crown exemption from stamp duty).

Subsections 2 and 3 insert in subsection 1 of Section 55 a reference to the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission, and make consequential amendments to subsection 1 of Section 55.

Subsections 4 and 5 are the commencement provisions. They apply subsection 3 to instruments executed on or after 28 March 2000, and deem the section to have come into force on that date.

BACKGROUND

The Northern Ireland Assembly Commission was set up by Section 40 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
