Travel Insurance Review

13 December 2008

HM Treasury's review into the selling of travel insurance purchased alongside a holiday or other related travel was launched on 4 August 2006. A call for evidence opened on 23 November 2006 and closed on 22 February 2007. 77 responses were received to this call for evidence.

Following the call for evidence, the Government conducted a consultation on its preferred approach and the draft legislation implementing this approach. The consultation document also provided a summary of responses to the call for evidence and a partial Regulatory Impact Assessment. This consultation closed on 18 September 2007. 15 responses were received to the consultation.

The Government has now confirmed that it will extend Financial Services Authority regulation to the selling of travel insurance sold alongside a holiday. Subject to Parliamentary approval, the proposed measure will be implemented by Statutory Instrument. The final text of the Statutory Instrument will be available shortly from the Office of Public Sector Information website. Further details are in the summary of consultation responses and final Impact Assessment provided below.
