Regulating Mortgages

In January, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury announced that the Financial Services Authority (FSA) would have responsibility for regulating mortgage business. To bring about, legislation under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA) will specify what the FSA's responsibilities are to be. Alongside this policy document, the Treasury is consulting about the orders required to bring these decisions into effect. This consultation document for consumers sets out the proposed policy on mortgage regulation.
