Deregulating retail freight forwarding insurance: a consultation

12 February 2009

Summary of responses to the HM Treasury consultation seeking views and evidence on the Government's intention to remove certain retail insurance activities of freight forwarders and storage firms from the scope of Financial Services Authority regulation. Respondents to the consultation supported the proposal. Subject to Parliamentary approval, it is intended that the revised arrangements will apply with effect from 6 April 2009.

The proposal follows the consultation and deregulation of the commercial insurance activities of freight forwarders and storage firms last year. The changes were made by Statutory Instrument 2007 no. 1821, which came into force on 20 July 2007. The final text of the Statutory Instrument is available from the Office of Public Sector Information website (external link).
