Kitty Ussher MP was appointed as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury in June 2009.
She previously served (from October 2008) as Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions and (from June 2007) as Economic Secretary to the Treasury. She has been Parliamentary Private Secretary to Margaret Hodge MBE, Minister of State at the Department of Trade and Industry (2006-07) and has served as member of the Public Accounts Committee (2005-07).
Prior to her election as Member of Parliament for Burnley in 2005, Kitty worked as chief economist for Britain in Europe and as an economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit and the Centre for European Reform. In addition she has worked as secretary to Paul Boateng and as researcher to MPs Martin O’Neill, Kim Howells and Adam Ingram. In 2001 she was appointed as special adviser to Patricia Hewitt in the Department of Trade and Industry. Kitty has also served as a local councillor in the London Borough of Lambeth for Vassall ward from 1998 to 2002 where she chaired the finance and environment scrutiny committees.
Kitty Ussher holds an undergraduate degree in politics and economics (PPE) from Oxford University and an economics MSc from Birkbeck College, London.
In her spare time Kitty enjoys hill walking and spending time with her young family, and she is a keen supporter of Burnley Football Club.
