Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are the improvements costing? Who is paying for the work?

The total value of the project is £4.2m. 25% of the cost is being local developer funded.

Who have you consulted over the improvements?

The new design has been developed and agreed with Gloucestershire County Council, to ensure it meets the needs of the area.

Why do you have to fully close the junction?

To reduce the long term disruption from the works, a considerable amount of work is planned to take place each night to minimise the length of the overall construction period. With such a heavy concentration of vehicles and activity in a very small area, it would not be safe or practicable to allow traffic through at the same time.

How will the emergency services get through if the road is closed?

We have liaised closely with the emergency services during the planning of this project. In the event of an emergency, they have been provided with a direct number to our traffic management team who will escort them safely through the works area.

Will there be delays at the junction once work is completed?

Computer modelling predicts that existing traffic queues on the motorway slip roads will be significantly reduced, with no adverse effect on current journey times for vehicles crossing the junction on the B4008.

How will traffic lights reduce the queues?

Analysis of the junction shows that vehicles leaving the motorway are currently giving way to a smaller number of vehicles already on the roundabouts. By installing traffic signals which can control priority, a larger number of vehicles can be released from the slip roads in a managed way, maintaining a balance between slip road and circulatory traffic.
