M5 J12 Junction Improvements
M5 J12 Junction Improvements
The Project
The M5 J12 near Gloucester currently experiences queuing issues, particularly at peak times, due to demand for the junction exceeding available capacity. Recent residential developments in the region will also impact on future traffic volumes at this location.
An interim measure was implemented in 2006, extending the offslips by converting the hard shoulder to an auxiliary lane and placing queue activated warning signs beside the main carriageways.
The Highways Agency has undertaken a number of permanent improvements to the junction, including modifications to the slip roads, roundabouts and overbridge, and the implementation of traffic signals in order to make the junction more efficient.
Work started on 6 September 2010 and completed at the end of January 2011.
