M4 Summerlands Accommodation Access Overbridge Replacement
The Project
The previous structure was constructed to maintain farm access over the M4 between junctions 16 and 17. The bridge did not meet current standards for collision loading, and was replaced in 2010 with a modern single span structure which also improves safety by providing increased head room over the hard shoulder.
Work to replace the bridge commenced mid January 2010. An overnight closure of the M4 took place in February to demolish the existing bridge, with a second closure in May to lift the new structure into place. The project was completed on 18th September 2010.
