What is the project?
Major maintenance work on the M11 north and southbound in Essex between Birchanger interchange (J8) and Stumps Cross interchange (J9), ar, between Stansted Mountfitchet and QuendonJunctions 8 and 9 on the M11 motorway in Essex commenced during October 2009 and was completed in May 2010.
The maintenance work included strengthening and resurfacing of the concrete carriageway, improvements to the concrete central reserve barrier, hardening of the central reserve, part renewal of drainage, works to 3 bridges to receive the new concrete barrier, alterations to the carriageway levels, kerbing, road-marking, road-studs, and reinstallation of motorway communication infrastructure in the central reserve.
Why was the work necessary?
The works will increase the life of the current road construction. Implementation of noise-reducing asphalt provides a smoother, safer and quieter road surface for road users.
