The Project

A slope instability beside the A40 carriageway at Highnam Woods held a potential danger of significant land slip, which would close road for an extensive period if corrective action was not taken.

A temporary solution, involving re-grading of the existing slope and the fixing of new slabs at the base of the slope was undertaken, with a permanent solution planned for construction in approximately five years time.

To minimise disruption, the works were carried out at night between Sunday 7 March and Friday 12 March 2010 and were completed prior to commencement of the Cheltenham Racing festival.
