The Project

To improve safety and reduce the risk of any emergency closures on the M20 at J6,work to install protection beams against over height vehicles has taken place at the entrance to the Chatham Road Bridge on the A229. The Chatham Road Bridge takes the M20 over the A229.

The work started on Tuesday 1 September 2009 and has recently been completed.

The work was on the northbound carriageway of the A229 and the northbound link-road between the Running Horse roundabout and the Cobtree roundabout, which are either side of M20 J6.

The beam was installed at the entrance to the bridge on the A299 ensuring that only vehicles of a suitable height can pass under the bridge.
