Public Consultation

Public Exhibition

A public exhibition that took place on the 29th February 2008 was attended by almost 100 members of the public. They were joined by staff from the Highways Agency and the designers who explained the scheme proposals and answered questions that arose. Feedback received from the exhibitions showed that majority were in favour of the proposed improvements. The Agency and their designers did review the details of the design in light of the feedback received to see if any improvements can be made. The last date for comments was 1 April 2008, when the statutory objection period ended.

Draft Orders and Public Inquiry

The draft statutory orders for the scheme were published on 12 February 2008. Objections were received, the nature and weight of which called for a public inquiry.  The public inquiry took place between 2 and 4 September 2008 at the Derby Conference Centre in front of an independent Inspector.

On 12 December 2008, following the recommendations of the Inspector, the Secretary of State for Transport decided that the draft orders should be confirmed (or 'made') with minor amendments included in response to comments made by objectors and discussed at the public inquiry. The orders were expected to be made and given legal effect in the first quarter of 2009. A copy of the decision letter and inspector's report can be found from the DFT website.
